A perfectly cooked beef steak can be a delicious and satisfying meal you can enjoy at home. But cooking it can be a bit tricky. Overdoing it will kill the juiciness, and if left undercooked, it will spoil the taste.
We have a few tips for cooking a perfect restaurant-style beef steak at home.
Different cuts of steak have different levels of fat, tenderness, and flavor. Some popular options for grilling or pan-searing include ribeye, strip steak, wagyu beef, and filet mignon. For slow cooking or braising, cuts like chuck roast or round steak may be a good choice.
Allowing the steak to come to room temperature before cooking can help it cook more evenly. Take the steak out of the fridge about 30 minutes to an hour before cooking.
Use a generous amount of salt and pepper to season the steak, and consider adding other herbs and spices as desired. Rub the seasoning evenly over both sides of the steak.
If grilling the steak, preheat the grill to high heat. If pan-searing, heat a heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat until it is hot.
For a rare steak, grill or pan-sear for 2-3 minutes per side. For a medium-rare steak, cook for 4-5 minutes per side. For a medium steak, cook for 6-7 minutes per side. For a well-done steak, cook for 8-9 minutes per side.
After cooking, allow the steak to rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute and makes the steak easier to slice.
Slice the steak against the grain and serve with your choice of sides, which can be fries, baked or mashed potato, rice, vegetables, etc.
The spice mixture adds a delicious depth of flavor to the beef, and the rest time allows the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, ensuring that it is moist and succulent. Enjoy!
